NX CAD
The geometry foundation for the whole simulation chain. A model built in NX transfers directly into Simcenter with no file export, eliminating the most time-consuming stage of every CFD project.
The role of NX in simulation projects
Nothing is lost in translation
Exporting through a neutral format always drops faces, opens gaps and breaks tolerances, costing the simulation engineer days of geometry repair. A shared NX platform eliminates this step.
Parametric geometry
Change a dimension in NX and re-run the simulation — the basis for sweeping whole families of design options.
Handles large assemblies
Industrial equipment is usually an assembly of hundreds or thousands of parts; NX manages that level of complexity.
Applications
- Industrial equipment design — combustion chambers, heat exchangers, piping systems
- Geometry preparation for simulation — simplification, fluid volume extraction, closing gaps
- Parametric models — building design variants for optimization
- Manufacturing drawings — issued once the option has been confirmed by simulation

Coupled tools
Simcenter FloEFD
Runs CFD inside the NX window without leaving the design environment.

- Preparing and cleaning geometry before meshing — the most time-consuming stage of a CFD project
- Building design variants to compare retrofit options
- Taking client drawings in many formats and consolidating them into one usable model

Licensing & support
NX is sold as a modular configuration. An organization using NX mainly to prepare geometry for simulation does not need the full configuration a manufacturing design office would.
- From a basic mechanical design package up to a full configuration with CAM and simulation
- Annual or perpetual licenses with maintenance
- CFDWAYS recommends a configuration matched to your actual use
Indicative system requirements
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 64-bit or Linux |
|---|---|
| RAM | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB or more for large assemblies |
| Graphics | A professional GPU with a certified driver |
| Storage | SSD for part libraries and assembly files |
Frequently asked questions
We use a different CAD system. Is switching to NX required?
Not necessarily. STAR-CCM+ imports many formats. However, for frequent design–simulation iterations, a shared NX platform saves significant geometry-handling time.
Will CFDWAYS do the geometry preparation?
Yes. Many clients simply send the drawings and let CFDWAYS handle everything from geometry to results.
Is your CAD ready for simulation?
Send the CAD file in any format — CFDWAYS will review it and report any issues to resolve.
